About Scotty

Scotty grew up in an ice rink facility that his father managed in rural Minnesota.  So, describing him as a rink rat is an understatement.  Scotty spent endless hours on the ice playing hockey and in the facility watching and learning from his father.  He eventually started working part time at the facility and really began understanding the challenges of operating and maintaining a public ice arena facility and the importance of meeting the needs of the user groups within a limited municipal budget.

After working at a number of other ice arena facilities in the area, including a Division I college facility, and finishing up his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Dakota, Scotty worked for a municipal engineering firm inspecting construction projects for several years.  In 2019, Scotty joined the team at B32 Engineering Group, Inc. and, among other activities, enjoys working as an Ice Official for youth and high school hockey games in his spare time.  His wide range of firsthand experiences with ice rink facilities and user groups allows him to look beyond the design of the ice system and provide insight and recommendations on many aspects of an ice arena facility.   His ice system design experience ranges from community-based ice arena facilities to college and NHL facilities.  He has also been an integral part B32’s outdoor rink portfolio including designing outdoor ice skating rinks and skating trails and ribbons.
