Scope of Work

The curling facility at the DECC is home to the Duluth Curling Club, one of the oldest and second largest curling club membership in the United States. Following B32’s previous very successful ice system projects at the DECC, including the ice rink floor replacement at the original DECC facility in 2006 and Amsoil Arena in 2010, the DECC hired and trusted B32 to design the curling floor replacement in 2015.

As with any renovation project, the challenges were many including exposing and addressing existing conditions, fitting new systems in existing spaces, working with the existing refrigeration system and flowrates that was not replaced, etc. This project had the added challenge of providing championship quality ice for the soon to be 2018 US Men’s Olympic Gold Metal Champions, Team Shuster. The project was completed on time and in budget.
